3D Printing - Iron Man 2

IRON MAN 2

The tech is more amazing than the film.

Legacy Effects, fashioned Iron Man’s suit (and the one worn by his super-foe Whiplash) with a 3D printer by Objet Geometries. The printer uses an ink cartridge of powdered plastic to print an ultra-thin layer, which is then “cured” using ultraviolet light and swabbed with paint as a finishing touch. From concept to prototype, the process takes mere hours.

For the sequel, Legacy Effects scanned actor Robert Downey Jr.’s hands to create flexible gauntlets no thicker than a dime, which stand in marked contrast to the gloves in the original Iron Man, which were clunky and difficult to maneuver. “He was thrilled with the change and happy to work in them for hours,” notes Objet in a press release. Smooth-On Calculator for iPhone

Description

You may never have heard of Smooth-On, but you've seen our products at work. If you've ever been to the movies, admired a piece of sculpture, marveled at detailed architectural ornamentation or used a telephone; then you've encountered the handiwork of people who use Smooth-On rubbers, plastics, foams and other products to turn their ideas into 3-dimensional reality.

Estimating the amount of mold rubber and casting resin needed to successfully complete a mold and/or casting can be a difficult task. However, not having enough material or having too much material left over is not only frustrating, but costly.

This estimator calculates how much material you need based upon the mold box & model dimensions that you provide and the cubic inch per pound (or cubic centimeter per kilo) yield of the pour-on mold rubber and/or liquid resin.

theFXspace's theFXguy, has downloaded this App to his iPhone and has found it to be a great tool while in the shop, away from the computer.  It eliminates those moments which you question your calculations.  Smooth-On has taken the extra step to assure your use of their products.
